It is a closure borrowed from another tradition entirely, and it changes how the front reads: a diagonal rather than a vertical, with the eye following the knots down instead of straight ahead. The print underneath is a dense fine paisley in two tones, the shoulders are lightly gathered, and the sleeves taper into a plain cuff.
Very little else in a wardrobe is fastened this way, which is most of why it works.
